Think Global. Build Social! Frédéric Druot
“Think Global. Build Social!” shows current examples of an alternative, socially comitted architecture which, with minimum financial expenditure but great deal of initiative and creativity, attempts to improve the living conditions of people in less privileged areas of the world. In many cases the 22 exemplary projects, curated by Andres Lepik, were created through close collaboration with the future users, incorporated local building traditions, and ensured the mutual transfer of knowledge. They indicate that, far beyond the world of “star architecture”, for some time now a very different kind of movement has existed in contemporary architecture that directs its attention to the social questions of the global community. The exhibition in the Architekturzentrum Wien, conceived jointly with DAM (Deutsches Architekturmuseum), is enchanced by the presentation of projects with Austrian involvement.
