German Building Developer Award 2013

The communale housing association SAGA GWG and kfs Architects received the German Building Developer Award 2013 for the modernisation of the ‘Weltquartier’, an intercultural residential quarter from the 1930s in Hamburg Wilhelmsburg. The quarter is inhabited by people from over 30 countries and was in strong need of redevelopment. The inhabitants were integrated into the planning process. The final concept gives credits to the historical brick facades of the buildings and creates a kind of ‘living shelf’ – a new spatial layer – with spacious layouts and loggias.
