Grande Hotel

It was never profitable, the luxurious “Grande Hotel” in Beira / Mozambique with its 110 rooms and a beautiful swimming pool. In 1960 the owners closed it. After that it was used – beside other things – as a prison and finally as a refugee camp during the Civil War – about 350 families live there today, 2500 people without running water or electricity, in the swimming pool, the laundry is washed.
The Grande Hotel is a world in itself, a city within the city – and some people spend their whole lives there …
